Yay! We'll be doing Easter Portraits with baby animals!

March 19th & 20th sessions will be held in the studio. This is recommended for any child that will be wearing more of the "traditional" Easter dress/dress clothing. March 26th & 27th sessions will take place at a little farm in Richmond, Kentucky. This is adorable with children wearing overalls or any other casual clothing as long as it can hold up around dust/dirt. Shoes will likely get dusty, at the very least so please consider this before reserving one of these times. Santa Sessions...

All of the Santa Sessions are booked! However, often times there is a cancellation for some reason and if you'd like to be called in the event that a time comes available please send a text message to 859-489-9078.

A text message will be the only way to contact me on Saturday, the 21st as it will be a busy day with Santa and friends! If there has been notification of a cancellation, I will contact those that are on the waiting list first and that confirm their interest first. So, if you are contacted first but you wait too long to let me know that you'd like the spot, it will go to whomever is interested.

'Tis the Season....

Santa is coming!!

November 21st 10am - 4pm

He will be visiting with us again this year for scheduled sessions so that each child has the opportunity to enjoy this special time. Santa will take his time so that there are no tears ~ this should be fun and exciting for children, not a traumatic event...EVER!

Cost: $49 per child ~ Siblings $24.50

Cost includes up to 30 minutes of one-on-one time with Santa and a special little gift to take home. Siblings will have individual time with Santa first and then, only if moods permit, we will attempt sibling portraits with Santa. It usually isn't a problem, but I have to be clear, it won't be forced on anyone.

** Receive an 8x10 and 12 wallets (same pose) with a donation (approx $10) of dog or cat food that can be brought to the studio and left at the bottom of the stairs.

Special pricing and packages will be offered as well.

YAY!!! It's time for adorable costumes, jack-o-lanterns, and fundraising for the Lexington Humane Society!

This year we'll be creating a wonderful calendar filled with the cutest little trick-or-treaters ANYWHERE around!

As usual, we'll have our costume contest with special prizes for the winners. And, special pricing and packaging for everyone! Online viewing and ordering will be available as well so you can share with out-of-town friends and family!

I have added an extra day this year, however, these sessions book very fast so if you're interested please let me know via email or voicemail.

When sending your inquiry let me know the date/time that's best for you and even a back-up day/time, just in case.

Also, please let me know the name, age, and costume (if you already know), of each child along with your contact information.

Opportunities Abound...

I will be following up and making call backs slower than usual over the next 10 days as an opportunity has presented itself to me and it's not optional, by any means.

Most of my clients are aware that 2 years ago I was planning to relocate into a newly constructed studio. You may even remember the excitement!

Unfortunately, there were licensing, building codes, building inspections, and occupancy issues that were out of my control and never completely resolved. There are two sides to every story and I do not want to put a dent into any part of my case so, I will refrain from disclosing any details at this time.

Over the past 2 years since this all began, it has been a challenging time for me. I have tried to keep up and sometimes I've tried to jump ahead. Usually, I'm trailing somewhere in the rear view. However, I've decided that I would use a positive-thinking approach and view this as an opportunity of a lifetime. I have the unbelievable opportunity of representing myself in a trial. Yes, after all this time, this case is going to trial, my friends!

I will represent myself against the owner/lessor of this property. They are an LLC comprised of an architect, a home builder, and a real estate attorney. Additionally, they are being represented by an attorney.

I am fully aware that I could lose but, let me just say, it won't happen quietly. I am far too competitive and retentive to allow this to just happen to me. Remember, I don't believe that things happen for a reason so I won't just sit back and let them. I will take my position and make them all aware of it.

There was a day when I was under-estimated, under-valued, under-appreciated and the sun has set on that day. Regardless of the outcome of this trial, I will prevail knowing that I will no longer under-estimate my abilities, I will realize that I am invaluable, and I will appreciate my tolerance threshold of the negative people and circumstances in my life.

So, now that I've put it out there, I appreciate any patience and understanding that you can lend me during this time.

I hadn't realized how long it's been since I've updated this blog! It's been busier than usual and I think that each year it surprises me more and more. I just wrapped up the St. Joseph East Maternity and daycare pictures along with lots of newborn and kid sessions! Things that I Wonder...

In the capturing of the image at top of this page, I thought at first sight how happy the color yellow made me. I had to capture that "Happy" and I set to work seeing it through my lens. I love all the colors in the background but had to find a focal point. In selecting this particular flower as my focal point, there was no real reason. It was just there or it stood out to me, in retrospect, I don't really recall. Maybe it was just waving at me in the slight breeze, maybe it was slightly taller than all the rest, who knows. Does it really matter? Probably not. But, I do wonder at times why things catch my eye. Or, the eye of another, for that matter. At first glance, what moves a person to the point that they may even gasp, unknowingly, as their breath is taken. Taken for no other reason save it's very being.

The image of this flower and the sea of all that surround it, represents to me the perception I have about us as individuals. I think there are times when we may seem similar, if not identical, to those in our stereotype (whatever stereotype that may be). But, there are also many times when we are set apart from all the rest just by our very being. Set apart so much so that we may even cause someone's world to stop as they gasp, unknowingly.

Wall Portrait Special!!!!

There are some restrictions which vary according to each session. Some variables would be things such as images must be available for larger reproduction, archived images would need to be retrieved, etc.

You would need to know the image number if you would like to order via phone. I will have a single day that I will preview the images if that would be helpful to anyone. This will be the only day that previewing for these specially priced portraits will take place. A separately scheduled preview may take place, however, the discounted pricing would not apply.

With the exception of Simply Baby participants and those being used for display, I will be archiving the images from all sessions prior to December 1, 2008 after the date below.

I overheard someone say that it was 2009 and thought I should make a few updates!!

This past year was such a whirlwind and just when I thought I was ready to begin the New Year, it apparently began even without my "okay"!

I will be making a few announcements over the next several days (which is your que to bookmark this blog), I want to start by letting everyone know that there will be NO price increase with the changing of the New Year. Instead, I will make a few changes to the process of creation to eliminate any unnecessary expenditure on my end. This, I believe is referred to as "trickle down" economics!

My personal note and reasoning for this change...or lack thereof...

I believe that you can choose what defines you. It can be your career, your house, car, or all of the latest fashions hanging nicely in your walk-in closet. But, when your youth is behind you and memories are the topic of conversation amongst distant and close relatives, alike, you will never be able to say that the organization of your lovely closet was a pivotal moment in which everything made perfect sense. You will never say that your career beamed at you with curious eyes and a toothless grin that was reserved all day long just for you. And, you will never say that your house was more beautiful without your family portraits.

So...while you can enjoy some or all of these things throughout life, it's truly your family, friends, and your memories that will ultimately define who you are.

Portraits may seem a luxurious item to some but I believe they are an absolute necessity for reasons far too many to list here. I don't just love the experience of creating them, I truly want you to have them to treasure with your family. I realize that a personal photographer isn't always feasible and I know that there are chain stores that can provide the "quickie print". By all means, whether it's a chain store or another photographer, capture this day...this moment! You will never look back with regret nor will you ever look at your portraits and think you need to sell them in a yard sale!

SANTA SESSION TIMES AVAILABLE!!

I'd I thought I'd send out a last minute notice to let anyone interested know that there are a few available times for the Santa Sessions.

The Santa Sessions include up to 30 minutes of play time with Santa along with an 8x10 and 12 wallets. Santa will also have a little gift for each child to take home. The cost is still $49 per child per session. Siblings are half price. Payment is due at the session.

We don't use a big chair or people dressed in elf costumes, just Santa and some cute trees and toys. Santa will sit on the floor with your child and play while interacting with them. If it takes a bit for your child to warm up then we let them, this should be a magical experience without tears and we will make sure that it stays that way. This is the only approach in staying with the consistent lesson we teach our children, which is: "Don't talk to strangers...and certainly, don't go sitting on their lap!". So, we make it so that Santa is no stranger, plain and simple.

If you're interested in one of the times available please send an email or leave a voice mail to let me know which time is best and which time would be a second choice. They will be scheduled on a first come first serve basis and you will receive an email confirmation letting you know that you've been scheduled.

As the holiday season rushes in...

I realize on some days, more than others, just what a wonderful clientele I have. I am so fortunate to do what I love every day. I am even more fortunate to do what I love with people gracious enough to allow me a glimpse into their lives. Many of my clients have become wonderful friends and I am so thankful for them.

As most of you know (those that have been coming to me for a while), I tend to over-extend myself which usually causes me to trigger an episode of vertigo, Meniere's Disease, and/or BPPV. I haven't gotten a definitive diagnosis in all this time but whatever it is, it makes me feel terrible. During these episodes, it's difficult for me to keep up or communicate clearly. I appreciate everyone being so patient, especially with this last episode. That being said, if you have called over the past couple of weeks or attempted to contact me and have not received a return call, please accept my apology and if you are still in need of my services I would love to hear from you again.

To everyone who checked in on me and offered a helping hand or just left a note to say that you were thinking of me, I am so very grateful.

So, while it may be frustrating for some, myself included. I am learning to follow advice I heard from someone which is:

"Embrace that which defines you".

The thought of that, for me, is not an option. Never!

I'm so into this whole political thing (always have been) and,

in keeping politics separate from business relations,

I will be spending my day voting and

taking advantage of the opportunity to talk with my kids

about the whole process and how we get to this point, and beyond.

I love every minute of it!

I rarely take a day off, but I will be unavailable this election day.

I will return calls, emails, etc. on Wednesday but,

being addicted to my work,

I may check my messages if my will becomes weak

so let me know if there is something vital

that needs an immediate return call

(like if you need a ride to the polls).

FYI: There were some announcements yesterday morning on one of the local channels that stated the polls would be open later than they actually will be but that was NOT true.

**Discontinued Item ~ Proof Albums

At least for the time being, assembled proof albums will not be offered effective October 1, 2008. This is a time intensive project that just isn't possible at this time of year, not to mention it's been extremely difficult in getting the albums themselves. So, to avoid providing a disappointing product, I will hold off on offering these until further notice.

However...

Proofs can still be purchased just as before only they will be printed in 5x7's displayed in a cute little proof box similar to those shown here. Colors will vary as I've found some really cute bright polka dot and striped ones as well as classic colors in black, brown, and the like.

Thank you to everyone for being so patient lately. This past weekend was the icing on the cake... My portable hard drive was zapped when I was downloading between sessions and printing off something else (got to multi-task!) so I am unable to access the files that I've recently worked on. So, I'm still working on pulling them off but it will be a slow process as I am not skilled at this sort of thing. If there is anyone that is familiar with these and would like to sned a bit of advice my way, that would be much appreciated. ****************** I've also gotten a cold, how is that?! Without the image number, I will select the image for the note card.
To select the image, please include the image number in the initial email. I will be submitting the orders as quickly as possible in order to receive them in plenty of time so if there is no image number in the initial email, I will select the image and place the order. No exceptions.
Include in your email how many total cards you would like. So, if you indicate in your email that you want 1 note card, that is the amount that will be ordered, even if you qualify for the complimentary card. If you know that you'll want 2 cards, then please indicate it just like that. If you qualify for the complimentary note card, you would only be obligated to pay for one of them.

I've got to sell off some of the duplicate prints that I've purchased and used for display and some that haven't been used for display! There's simply no more room! I even have Daycare prints and proofs that I have tons of! So, while I will try to post a few images of the duplicates that I have, it will be impossible for me to post all of them, or even close to all of them. Please feel free to come by the studio during the times listed below to take a look through things that will be available for a significantly reduced price...about 1/3 to 1/2 of the regular price! Here are just a few pictures that I took at the daycare last week... There's something to be said when a little kid knows you well enough that they flash their "picture smile" at you when they see you. This little girl gives me this smile every time I look in her direction with my camera. It's only when she's not paying attention that I get the real stuff...I'll post those later...

Usually both of these boys are just a blur through the lens! On the go and always adorable!

It's been quite a while since I've been able to post an update! After some hard drive difficulties, I'm finally able to recover some files that I had thought may have been gone forever. Not a good feeling... I finished up the Summer Newsletter and it can be viewed by clicking here. Lots of current info there. I'll be at the St. Joseph East Maternity Fair this Saturday, May 10th. The maternity fair is from 8:30am - 12 noon. Be sure to bring some address labels if you come, this will save you from filling out all those entry forms that all the vendors will have. I'll be sponsoring Dr. Nancy Bishof's talk on introducing siblings and pets to the new baby! I have taken my kids to Dr. Bishof for years and I my kids like her better than any other doctor they've had!

seem shabbier and more defeated

than I've ever seen them in my lifetime,

Lexington Cemetery

Oh, I so needed an outdoor session today and this was the best place to be this week. The Lexington Cemetery is so beautiful this time of year and I love being out there. Unfortunately, there are usually so many other people there or the sun is so bright and since it closes early it's kind of limiting. So, today with the impending rain and freshly blooming flowers it was wonderful!!

If you haven't been to the cemetery for a portrait session during this season, I highly recommend it. The trees are already losing the blooming flowers and it will turn into bright green leaves so this color only lasts for about a week. Other colors will come and some will remain so it's not like you miss out altogether.

Apparently, I have some admirers in the area! Flattered is how I should feel but why do I feel differently? I spend 16-20 hours per day researching, creating, thinking, etc...if only I knew that we were sharing. I believe that anyone and anything can evoke some kind of inspiration. A color, a smell, a special t-shirt, another artist, whatever....but take that inspiration and create something of your own. Define yourself with what you can do and create something that speaks to that. That is one reason why I don't work in a chain photo store, it's the same lighting, props, and set up. The offers are the same and the promos are the same. Ugh! I can't stand it! So, I try to always think up new and different things. Maybe people like them, maybe they love them. You never know, but that's the risk that I love.

I take time to get authorization for my music and pay the fees that need to be paid to "rent" them. I develop ideas that I think are my own after spending countless hours changing and tweaking little things here and there. My logo, taglines, etc. All of those. I've changed them in the past due to this issue and I just don't get it, I guess. When people visit my site and then another with the same music and general content it isn't a good thing. Or, vice versa which is what probably bothers me the most. To know how much I put into everything and to imagine that a potential client thinks that I am not creative enough to do what I've been doing for so long, is a gut wrenching feeling. Until I know that this has stopped, I will limit the information that I put on my web and this blog. This is the last call for anyone wanting to take advantage of the extension on the proof sale! This offer will not be extended any longer and I don't plan on offering it again. Especially, now that we've made the change to projection viewing eliminating the need for proofs anyway. Although, there are times when the proof albums will be available from a private session, they are substantially higher in cost than this proof sale.

In order to be more efficient I will be going back to scheduling studio hours by appointment only. The days and times available may vary depending upon my location sessions during a particular week.

Other days/times will be available but, in general, I will be available for preview appointments and order pick ups/drop offs in the studio on Wednesdays between 10am-5:30pm. I will also be available at least one evening during the week which will vary based on my own children's activities.

Standard portrait sessions will be scheduled just as they are now, considering available times and those times/days best for everyone in the session.

Newborn sessions will be scheduled on Fridays in the studio. I always make room for new babies if I have your due date on my calendar and I will certainly do my best even when I don't have you on my calendar! There's no commitment for you to get on the calendar, so let us know when you're baby is due to arrive!

Availability for sessions on location during the winter months is limited so call as soon as you know that you want to schedule or if you just want some information!

Christmas decorations in Florida...gotta love it!!

Due to the madness of returning from Tampa and some unforeseen events that made me unavailable, I am extending the proof sale through January 18th. This means that any information with the due date of January 12th will be extended until the 18th. This DOES NOT apply to the 5x7 upgrade. This does mean, however, that the delivery date for these orders will be extended for the same amount of time.

LAST CALL FOR 5X7 PROOFS!

Payment must be received today in order to receive the 5x7 proofs for the price of the 4x5/4x6 proofs. The proofs, without the special upsizing, will be available for purchase through January 12th so you do still have some time, but remember, it will not be extended for any reason. This is not going to be a standard every year, this is a special offer due to the relocation to the new studio and to make sure that it's fair for everyone having placed an order from their session(s).

YAY!! I'm off to warm, yes warm, Tampa, Florida!

I'll be attending a national photography convention from January 5th-12th. This is a business trip so I will be checking voicemail and email so please feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule an appointment. With the exception of newborn sessions, my next available opening is during the last week in January.

It may take a full 24 hours to return your call depending on how my suntan is coming along....

There will be no assistant in the studio during this time to do anything more than check up on things, so please mail any correspondance/orders to PO Box 24953 Lexington, KY 40524. I'll confirm via email that I've received your order upon my return. If you're expecting delivery of an order and haven't heard from me, please email me directly at jill@dreamcapture.com. Here it is...2008! Wow, it's almost surreal to think that it's a new year already. The past 6 months have been a complete blur! The back and forth with the first studio location that was never completed (and is still vacant) and finally the transition into the current studio which seems to be ongoing. I've been here for a few months now and I'm still not settled in! It's coming along and I'm determined to get it organized in the coming weeks when I return from Tampa. Any inspiring New Years resolutions out there? I would love to hear them! Me? I'm going to try to get more organized and continue to grow my business. What else, right?

It's that time again...PROOFS FOR SALE!!!

This year will be a bit different from last in that not all of the proofs made it through the move and not everyone viewed printed proofs. Therefore, I will be offering to have the proofs reproduced if the interest is there. Please contact me if you are interested!

JUST SO YOU KNOW...

These will be unmarked proofs, just like those in the proof albums.
Proofs will be produced in sizes 4x5, 4x6, or 5x7. Order by January 3rd and receive 5x7 proofs at no additional cost!
Price will vary depending upon your original order total, the size of proofs produced, and the number of proofs purchased.
Proofs will be sold in sets based on the session itself. This will eliminate the need to sort through or decide how many you may want from a session. For example, if you had a spring and fall session with us but you only want to purchase the proofs from your spring session you will be purchasing all of the proofs from that session. Even if there are 50 proofs and you only want 2 (yes, this does happen), you would need to purchase all of them as a set. If you don't think that you want or need all of them you can give them to family or friends or start a scrapbook!
Proof album and/or lay out is available for an additional fee.
Images will not be placed online - please do not ask.
This offer will not be extended - absolutely no exceptions.
Images will be archived and all of those pesky fees, minimum orders, and regular pricing will apply if you decide that you want to reorder any images.
Images not previously ordered as a print will not be accessible. This is your final opportunity to get those images that were "rejected" along with a copy of those that you loved.
This will also keep these images on file and will allow you to reorder for up to 12 months!
Some sessions may be unavailable for various reasons. However, most sessions are accessible, even those from daycare and promotional sessions within the past 12 months.
All proof orders must be prepaid. Visa and MasterCard are accepted as well as cash, check, and money order.
All payments must be received NO LATER THAN January 12th. Payments received after this date will be returned.
Orders placed on or before January 3rd will automatically receive 5x7 proofs at no additional cost.

Santa Session opening available!

There are a couple of openings for the Santa sessions tomorrow, December 8th. The available times are 1:30p and 2pm. There may be others that cannot be confirmed so check with me at jill@dreamcapture.com if you're interested! The sessions last approximately 20-30 minutes and there is a session fee of $49 that includes an 8x10 and 12 wallets.

Last call for note cards and calendars...

This is the last call for note cards and calendars in order to have them back in time for the holidays. They extended the deadline already and I don't think it will happen again so please place your order for these items no later than November 30th. This will make sure that we get them back in time to give. Probably not enough time to mail unless locally, just keep that in mind.

Note card pricing is as follows:

$35 set of 25 postcard style ~ 4x5

$55 set of 25 folded note card style ~ 4x5

$90 set of 25 tri-fold style ~ 5x5

Sold in sets of 25. Discount of 20% on each additional set of identical cards. All cards have the optional linen texture finish to add a touch of elegance. Envelopes are included as well and will be delivered with the cards. Occassionally, I do have them prior to the note cards if you want to stop by and pick them up to begin addressing them. Check with me first just to make sure I have them though! New templates have been uploaded to the website so check them out!

Santa stopped by!

Santa was great! He had so much patience and gave so much attention to everyone! It took a little bit for most everyone to warm up but once they did... They had a blast! Santa got a little bit silly... But, he listened to make sure he got the right things on the list. Some times he had to let the kids think for a minute, and some times he just played with the trains on the floor! They all seemed to like that!

We didn't use Santa's chair after the first 5 minutes, Santa just got down on the floor and stayed at the kids' level. I think it made a huge difference! Thank you Santa! We'll see you again on the 8th!!
